Dear NRP families,
PAC executive team is grieving the loss of the Afzaal family who were taken simply because of their faith. We believe it is important to bring this tragedy to the attention of our community and pay respect to the victims. We also would like to share information on the vigil planned for later this week in Vancouver downtown.
There’s been an outpouring of support from across the country following the revelation that an Ontario family of four fatally hit by a vehicle was targeted because they were Muslim.
In Vancouver, while one vigil has already taken place, another is planned for later this week. The vigil will be held Thursday, June 10 at 7 p.m. on the Georgia Street side of the Vancouver Art Gallery in solidarity with the Muslim community.
“Please join the Muslim community as we collectively join in solidarity and compassion to honour the most recent victims of Islamophobia – in the form of a terrorist attack,” state organizers online.
They add that, as per the family’s request, attendees should not bring candles.
Masks and social distancing are also requested.
