Norma Rose Point Elementary School and PAC are celebrating Bike & Walk to School Week this year from May 31 to June 4! We’re encouraging students and families to use active transportation for their trips to school all week – walking, biking, scootering, skateboarding, and mobility aids. This all helps to reduce congestion in our school neighbourhood, build community, promote health and wellness, and students arrive at school energized and ready to learn.
We’re also hosting events every morning that week from 8:30 AM until 8:55 AM. Please plan on coming to school earlier to enjoy the fun activities.
Monday May 31 – Decorate your bike or backpack!
Kids who walk, bike or scoot to school will have a chance to pick up various decorations to accessorize their bike, backpack or scooter.
Tuesday June 1 – Grab a Sticker
Wed. June 2 & Thur. June 3 – Bike Tune-ups by The Bike Kitchen
Mechanics from The Bike Kitchen (UBC’s community bike shop) will come to our school and provide simple tune-up services like tire pump-ups, chain oiling, and checking the basics. They will be able to see 5-6 bikes each morning. They will also be handing out cycling information and maps as well as talking about bicycle maintenance for those who might not be able to get an on-site tune-up.
Thursday June 3 – Treasure Hunt
Kids who walk, bike or scoot to school will have a chance to go on a quick and fun “Treasure Hunt” around school related to biking and walking. Completed Treasure Hunts will win a small treat.
Friday June 4 – Boogie into school with live music from G7’s “Aftershock” band
Closing this fun and active week will be G7’s “Aftershock” band. Enjoy live music as you roll into school!

We also need parent volunteers to run these events smoothly and make kids happy.
